Local Pests in Chillicoth, OH

Bed Bugs

As small as an apple seed, Bed Bugs can live undetected through luggage, clothing, used beds, couches, and other items. With their flat bodies, not only can they fit into a space about the width of a credit card, but over time they can spread to other rooms and buildings if not treated properly. If you wake up with itchy red patches, please get in touch with our team at Red Door Pest Control today to identify these pests.

Bat Bugs

With a similar look to Bed Bugs, these animals are small, oval-shaped insects that appear flattened with a dark brown or red coloration. The most common sign of a bat bug infestation is the irritating bites the pests inflict. With bats as their main hosts, these pests will not remain near beds or the typical places one would find bed bugs. Due to this, sometimes bat bugs are difficult to detect.

carpet beetles

Mostly ranging from 2mm to 5mm in length, Carpet Beetles are oval-shaped and feature white and yellow scales covering the body in distinct patterns. While the various color patterns may vary, these beetles are most dangerous during their larval stage, and the first and most apparent sign of an infestation is adult beetles on your window sills. Most similar to moths, the larvae tend to be detected by eating a single, large area of fabric. In addition, Carpet Beetle larvae leave cast skins when molting, which could cause humans allergic reactions and even dermatitis.

Black legged ticks

As the primary cause of Lyme Disease in the Eastern United States, Blacklegged Ticks are tiny in size and appear dark brown to black with darker legs. Like all ticks, these pests are a bloodsucking ectoparasite and frequent wooded areas, fields, homes, and buildings in rural areas. This species is rarely found indoors unless found on a household pet.

american dog ticks

Predominantly found along forest edges in areas with little to no tree cover, grassy fields, sidewalks, and trails, these ticks primarily feed on people and domestic dogs. Harboring bacteria responsible for human diseases, such as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, these ticks are most likely found during spring and early summer.

lone star ticks

Mostly found in woodlands with dense undergrowth and around animal nesting areas, these ticks do not carry disease-causing germs but can still transmit germs like Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. These ticks are aggressive human biters and are associated with some people developing a red meat allergy. These ticks are usually active between April -late August and can be easily identified by the single white dot in the center of a brown body.

german Cockroach

Generally flat and oval, these cockroaches range from 1/2 inch to 5/8 inch long. With their light brown and tan coloring, German Cockroaches are often distinguished by two dark stripes down their back and are often found in warm, humid environments close to food and water sources. These pests frequently invade residential properties by hitchhiking in cardboard boxes, grocery bags, and appliances. If you suspect you may have an infestation of these creatures, kitchen and bathrooms are known to be their favorite hideouts.

ants

As some of the most common insects in the world, Ants can be found almost everywhere. Here in Ohio, you should know about five common types of ants. Carpenter Ants, Pavement Ants, Odorous House Ants, Pharaoh Ants, and Thief Ants. While each Ant species has its unique characteristics, Ants, in general, can cause significant property damage to your home. From tunneling through your wood to infesting your kitchen pantry with food aromas, don't underestimate the damage a large colony of ants can do.

fleas

As a blood-feeding parasite that is more common in warmer climates, these fleas are flat with no wings and easily jump from one host to the next. Mostly found on household pets, these insects can jump through screened doors and windows. While most pet flea medications kill adult fleas, the eggs in the home must also be treated to ensure the infestation is eradicated.

asian lady bugs

Often mistaken for Ladybugs, Asian Lady Bugs are relatively new to the country and native to China, Russia, Korea, and Japan. About 1/4 inch long, these bugs are oval and convex, often with colorations from tan, red, or orange. With black spots on their wing covers, most of these bugs have a small dark "M" or "W" shaped marking behind their head. Often looking found in homes and buildings during the winter, these bugs typically do not provide any injury to humans, nor do they damage the structural integrity of buildings.

stink bugs

Earning their name from the defensive odor they release when disturbed or crushed, Stink Bugs are often found in homes during late summer and autumn when temperatures begin to drop. Usually mottled greyish-brown, these bugs are typically triangle shaped and about 3/4 inch long. Stink Bugs arent not known to damage property or bite humans and often find their way into homes through cracks around windows, doors, outlets, chimneys, and other small spaces.
